Hi there,
At the end of each month, I usually write about the little things that have brought me joy and invite you to respond and let me know the highlights of your month too.
Personally, July has been kind to me. We returned to homeschooling for Term 3, one of my favourite people turned 40 and we celebrated together with her loved ones, and I started to action some personal and professional goals. I also returned to Facebook, so if that's where you hang online, you can follow me over there.
Below are some of my fave things about July 2024. I invite you to respond in the comments below with yours as well.
I was thrilled to catch up with one of my favourite people earlier in the month, Anita Heiss (as pictured at the top of this blog). For as long as I can remember, Anita has been one of my favourite authors. Over the years, she's also become a wonderful friend. So imagine the *pinch me* moment when we took the above image together of her holding my book. Fast forward a week or two, and Anita posted the above photo and caption on her social media about You Will Find Your Way after having read it herself. I couldn't believe an author of her calibre had such kind things to say about my first book. I also happen to be in awe of her all over again at the moment, as I'm reading her latest book, Dirrayawadha, right now. I haven't finished it yet, but it's already unsurprisingly brilliant. I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy, and I promise to write more about it once I'm finished.
I was also excited to have the opportunity to have You Will Find Your Way stocked in a local bookstore this month alongside other books and products from local creatives. If you live in the Logan City Council region, you'll be able to find a copy of my book for $15 at the Aussie Secondhand Bookshop. While you're there, take a bundle of old books from home, and you can swap them for books in the secondhand books part of the shop. Fun!
I did more work on my next poetry book inspired by musings whilst out in nature. As part of my "research", I've been going for regular bushwalks and taking notes as inspiration lands. I shared an early poem from this collection on the blog, Facebook and Instagram earlier today.
My occupational therapist recommended this standing desk which has been bringing me a lot of joy this month. One of the things I've been practicing has been leaning into my hyperfocus, because it helps me get stuff done, but moving about whilst doing so. Transitioning between sitting and standing, and even moving rooms throughout the day (as I chase the sun), has I suspect gone a long way toward easing my back pain this month. Wahoo!
As you might have noticed in the pics above, my hair gradually got pinker and pinker this past month. It's very bold and nothing at all like I'm used to, plus makes it very hard to hide in the corner at social events - but I'm loving it. So fun!
Finally, don't forget to reply via the comments below, and let me know about the little (or big) things that have been bringing you joy lately too! In the meantime, I hope this new month (geez, August already) brings you all the good things in life.
