At the end of each month, I usually write about the little things that have brought me joy and invite you to respond in the comments letting me know the highlights of your month too.
August 2024 was a full month behind the scenes. I was sick with a head cold for part of it. I also made some personal decisions that felt big, including commencing property settlement and divorce processes. It's such a strange feeling, trying to let go of what you thought your future would be and transition to a new chapter that is unknown.
I focused on taking care of myself and my young one, plus making time for writing and being in nature. I had planned to make progress on my new nature-inspired poetry collection, but wasn't loving what I was writing, so decided to take a break and switch focus to a new idea that had been budding - a middle grade fiction with a non-binary tween as the protagonist. I've always wanted to write novels, so it's been fun plotting out a story and beginning to write.
So as always, here's an acknowledgment of my fave things about August 2024. I invite you to respond in the comments below with yours as well.
I started creating a bullet journal full of recipes that we enjoy to make meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking easier. I'm still slowly adding favourite recipes to the books as we discover them, but so far it's brought me a lot of joy to create these recipe books and cook from them too. If you're interest in making one for yourself, search for "recipe bullet journal" on Youtube for lots of inspiration for getting started.
Fern continued to bring us joy, and at times, a lot of frustration as he grinned on walks and stared us down after thieving something he knows he's not allowed. He almost always finds a way to make himself the centre of attention.
I hadn't been as inspired to read of late, but one book changed all of that - Anita Heiss' Dirrayawadha. It moved me so much that I even wrote a blog post about it. If you haven't read it yet, I HIGHLY recommend that you do. It's such a brilliant book.
We took breaks from homeschooling and writing to get out in nature on foot and by e-bike. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful area. And hopefully as an added bonus, these adventures might help improve my dismally low Vitamin D levels too.
My book, You Will Find your Way, got to #2 on the bestsellers list under the Poetry Subject & Themes category on Amazon AU and received over 100 positive reviews on the Amazon US site. It was a real *pinch me* moment seeing my little book sitting up there below Rupi Kaur at #1. You can get a free sample of this book by subscribing to my newsletter list.
And now it is Spring in this part of the world. Let's see what this new season shall bring.
If you get a moment, don't forget to reply via the comments below, and let me know about the little (or big) things that have been bringing you joy lately too! In the meantime, I hope this new month brings you all the good things in life.
