Hi there,
How did September 2024 treat you?
Personally, I was knocked around by another flare up of back pain, which forced me to slow down a lot. This is an issue I've had on/off for over ten years now and past tests have not revealed any answers. But I'm working with a new health support team and we've reopened the investigation, so let's see if we can get to the bottom of it.
I also spent the month planning Term 4 of our homeschool curriculum, celebrating my young one's 11th birthday quietly behind the scenes, reconnecting with my Nintendo Switch, and attending many appointments thanks to the support both my child and I currently receive via the NDIS.
At the end of each month, I usually write about the little things that have brought me joy or moved me or helped me in some way, and invite you to respond in the comments letting me know the highlights of your month too. So let's dive in...
The pops of colours that come with spring brought me a lot of joy this month, whether they be on walks in our neighbourhood or even in our little garden. So beautiful. Were there lovely changes with the season in your local area too?
I should have been saving money, but splurged on some pretty fine jewelry from Runaway Rosy, including a rose gold necklace and some rings, that I absolutely LOVED. If you're looking for a new and affordable handmade piece for yourself or a loved one, you might like to check out Em's store as well.
I borrowed Black Witness: The Power of Indigenous Media by Dr Amy McQuire out from the library. I learned so much from it, that I purchased a copy too. I highly recommend that you get a copy and read it as well. You can also sign up to receive Amy's Substack articles here too.
As I mentioned, I have a mystery back issue that tends to flare up and cause me issues periodically. It’s been very painful lately, so I’ve been prioritising taking breaks from my desk to stretch throughout the day, and have been doing a little yoga each morning and evening, which seems to offer some relief. This beautiful deck of cards made this process fun and easy - I just choose a collection of poses from the deck and get straight into it.
I was excited to receive these bookmarks, inspired by Bloom Bright Virtual Solutions' suggestion. I plan on dropping my book into some street libraries over the coming weeks, and was going to add another randomly selected book that I no longer need from my bookshelf into each of them as well - so a bookmark might find it's way into some of those too. Plus they seemed like a fun alternative to a business card to carry around! If you own a business and/or are an author, do you have a business card these days?
I enjoyed posting on Instagram more regularly again, including sharing reviews, previews and behind the scenes stories of my poetry book You Will Find Your Way - as well as posts about the things that were moving me or bringing me joy each day, and using stories to easily share other people's work and news on issues that are important to me.That's a wrap for September 2024! If you get a moment and feel comfortable doing so, please reply via the comments below, and let me know about the little (or big) things that have been bringing you joy or supporting you lately too! I'd love to read them! 🙂
