Wowsers, the holiday season is here already! If you are looking for gift ideas, I thought I'd write this gift guide featuring poetry collections that I own on paperback - including my poetry collection - that would make thoughtful presents for the book lovers in your life.
You Will Find Your Way by Naomi Arnold
I know I'm biased, but You Will Find Your Way would make a lovely gift for anyone who has been through a rough year, particularly those who have ended a relationship of any kind. It is my hope that this book will help them feel less alone.
Home Body by Rupi Kaur
A dear friend, Nicola Newman, first told me about Home Body. It explores themes of acceptance, family, love, community and change. Oh my goodness I loved everything about it - from the title through to the relatable words and simple illustrations throughout. And I'm not the only one who feels this way, given the over 16,000 reviews and 4.8 star rating this book has on Amazon.
Flowers on the Moon by Billy Chapata
I stumbled across Flowers on the Moon at my local library and it quickly became one of my favourite reads of the year. It explores themes of love, loss, growth and resilience. I was astounded at how many poems were similar to private thoughts I've had in my own head and written about in my poetry as well. I loved it so much that I purchased a copy for myself and bought another copy for a friend.
Changing with the Tides by Shelby Leigh
I joined Shelby's Creatives' Content Club* a couple of months back (in fact, she's the inspiration for creating this gift guide), which prompted me to start reading her poetry collections. I read changing with the tides first and instantly new I wanted to read her other collections. This collection explores themes of insecurity, heartbreak, anxiety, hope, healing and self-empowerment. A lovely, lovely read.
Eggshells by Parm K.C
I can thank the Instagram algorithm for introducing me to Parm K.C's poetry. I was thrilled to find eggshells on Kindle Unlimited and immediately started reading. The collection focuses on the heartbreak of toxic relationships and explores love, abuse, self-image, growth and healing. I related to so many of the poems within that I instantly gifted myself a paperback copy of the book and downloaded Parm K.C's other poetry collections to read next.
Kindred by Kirli Saunders
Kindred by Kirli Saunders is another one of those books that I first borrowed from the library and then had to purchase myself a copy. Kindred explores themes of identity, culture, community, love, connection, loss and the role of Earth as healer. It would make a lovely gift for a family member or cherished friend.
I hope this offers some ideas for gifts you can get the loved ones in your life this holiday season. Or perhaps they'll make a great gift for yourself instead. 😉
I've also read a bunch of wonderful poetry on my kindle recently, predominantly authored by indie authors, that I'll have to write about sometime soon also.
