The Little Things [May 2024]

Hi there,

When I moved to Brisbane, I was thrilled to get to spend in-person time with my friend Sabrina. Sabrina’s husband Cam would join us and we immediately became friends. He brought lots of joy to my life, especially watching him with my young one Cloud and the bond they quickly formed over their shared interests of gaming, comics, cheeky jokes, big life questions, and doing things outside of the box.

The last time I saw Cam, he told me my 40s would be my best years yet. Then unexpectedly, we spent the first week of my 40s at the hospital saying bye to him. I hope he’ll get a kick out of the fact that thanks to him, I’m more determined than ever to make sure he ends up being right, and despite the rocky start, making my 40s the best years yet.

At the end of each month, I usually write about the little things that have brought me joy. As I write the May 2024 edition today, I’m reflecting on what an overwhelmingly awful and truly sad month it was. But there were still pockets of joy in there. So here goes with taking the time to acknowledge and share them as always.

๐ŸŽ‚ I celebrated my 40th birthday getting spoiled with gifts, eating cake, and hiking in a nearby national park.

✍๐Ÿผ My poetry book - You Will Find Your Way - was officially published on Amazon paperback, Kindle Unlimited, Booktopia and other platforms.

๐Ÿถ Our puppy Fern brought us giggles and love as he clumsily bumped around in his cone and gave us lots of cuddles after having his desexing procedure.

๐Ÿ–ผ️ The artwork in my home made me feel calm and grounded as I pottered around.

๐Ÿ™ˆ I had an immature giggle when Googling this plant I found on a walk and discovering it was likely a Gomphocarpus physocarpus which is considered an environmental weed in Queensland and has some silly other names like “hairy balls”.

๐ŸŒ I felt moments of calm while walking and admiring the soft, crisp evenings

I would love if you would reply via the comments below, and let me know about the little (or big) things that have been bringing you joy lately too!
